~Live Acoustic Music~
David Lamanno

Among the many hats he wears…husband, Father, Photographer, Bookstore Manager, there is one which brings
him to our Blue Vine stage…
David Lamanno is a one-man band. Salisbury Citizens may have heard him playing out
on the sidewalk down in the Rail Walk Art District on N. Lee Street and patrons of the Looking Glass Artist
Collective will have heard him opening for several musical groups which have played at the Black Box Theater.
Using an
old-school guitar, harmonica and wooden kick drum, Lamanno’s repertoire includes traditional Blues and
Americana as well as original tunes in an infectious rock-a-billy style.
Two of his favorite performers to give tribute to
are Johnny Cash and Elvis.  While in college during the late '80s and early '90s in Asheville, he was performing in
three bands including the punk rock band
Electro-Lux and the Rib Tips which does somewhat influence his originals.
Come on out and lets give David a warm Blue Vine welcome.
You'll be glad you did!

August Black

The convergence of these two talents has culminated in the amazing duo August Black.
Chris William Campbell was raised within the beautiful backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, from which he drew the
inspiration to write heart-felt songs of life and love to which nearly everyone can relate. After singing harmony with
his brother at the tender age of 5 and following in his father's guitar-playing footsteps at 14,
Chris has evolved into one of the best guitar players in this area.
Chris also spent time living in Nashville and further honing his songwriting skills.
Jeff Jablonski is a product of the Chicago area, beginning guitar at the age of 11 after seeing the Beatles on TV. Jeff
has performed with various folk, Rock, and Southern Rock bands over the past 45 years
including the popular Salisbury band,

~Live Acoustic Folk/Americana/Jazz Music~
Valorie Miller
Rupert Wates

Asheville N.C's Valorie Miller is no stranger to our stage and we are delighted to welcome her back!  Miller has
plenty of accolades in the world of songwriting: top finalist in the 2007 Great American Song Contest, a recent
invitation to play at New York City's renowned folk club, The Bitter End, and even fan mail from Lucinda Williams
herself. But to Valorie, the hallmark of personal success is the intensity with which her fans become attached to her
songs. One fan recently had his favorite of her songs played at his mother's memorial service. Another sustained a
life threatening injury while hiking in the wilderness alone, and later wrote her to say that playing her songs over
and over in his head gave him the strength to get himself out alive. To her fans, Miller's songs are more than
entertainment, they are vitally important touchstones. This phenomenon inspires her to keep touring, writing and
recording. Her current release, Autumn Eyes, masterfully delivers her newest material with the trademarks that
everyone who loves her music has come to expect:
beautiful guitar picking, a genuine and singular voice, and heart-wrenching lyrics.
This woman is
a songwriter's songwriter, and she inhabits the Americana music scene like a true native.

We are pleased to welcome
Rupert Wates back to our stage!
"To describe Rupert Wates as a singer/songwriter does not do him justice. You feel, not just hear his music and his
lyrics. He is an experience." (Eileen Batson, North Carolina Songwriters Co-Operative)
London born, Rupert Wates has been a full time songwriter since 1992 when he signed an exclusive deal with Eaton
Music Publishing. He has written songs in all kinds of styles for all kinds of artists. During the Nineties he worked
with Jazz singer Liz Fletcher, recording the albums MELLOWMANIA and LIVE IN THE PARK, both released on the
Sanctuary label, and BLUE AFTERNOONS on Mainstem. Moving to Paris in 2001, he developed his skills as a singer
and performer and formed his own group. In 2005 he recorded the album SWEET OR BITTER WINE, his first as a
solo artist. Since September 2006, Rupert has been based in the USA. He has recorded three CDs since coming to
the States, 'Coast To Coast', 'Dear Life', and now in 2010 his most exciting project to date: 'Joe's Cafe'. His music
has found a warm reception in America. Strong melodies, memorable lyrics, nuanced and real emotion - these are
the hallmarks of Rupert Wates' music. Come on out and unwind to the music of Rupert Wates!

~An Evening Concert Celebrating the Blues~
featuring
Internationally acclaimed Songwriter, Recording Artist and Performer
Ann Rabson

Despite worldwide recognition as a distinguished and award-winning musician, Ann Rabson sees herself as simply
the vehicle for her art. Seamlessly blending voice, guitar and  piano, Ann delivers her music, the blues, in a pure
form that delights audiences everywhere.
Ann was first touched by the blues at age four when she heard Big Bill Broonzy on the radio. Ann says, “His music
spoke to me; my world went from black-and-white to color.” Little did Ann know that that three-minute experience
would lay the foundation for her adult life. Now in her fourth decade as an internationally acclaimed songwriter,
recording artist and performer, Ann creates music that speaks to and entertains people all over the world.
A skillful and witty writer, Ann embraces topics of universal appeal. Ann writes about lost love, unconditional love,
and when it might be time to just move on from a one-sided love.
Ann Rabson sings in a distinctive contralto voice . Her smoky, gritty delivery draws from a wide vocabulary of bluesy
bends, squeals, and sensual whispers to match the story she is telling.
Ann still plays the first instrument she touched as a child--a guitar found in her father’s attic. Attracted to the
Piedmont style of guitar picking, Ann created a unique and ear-catching sound all her own.
At age thirty five, Ann decided to learn the piano. Now honored as a member of the Boogie Woogie Hall of Fame and
praised as having the “best left hand in the blues,” Ann brings the historic blues, boogie-woogie, and barrelhouse styles
front and center. Her ability to play challenging left- and right-hand melodies while singing is nothing short of magical!
Downbeat magazine says Ann plays “with staggering authority.”
This year Ann received her ninth nomination for a Blues Music Award (formerly W.C. Handy Award) as Traditional
Blues Female Artist of the Year
. In 2008 she was nominated for Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year; her first
solo album, Music Makin' Mama, was nominated for Album of the Year in both the Traditional Blues and Acoustic
Blues categories; and her composition Elevator Man was nominated for Song of the Year.
Ann's solo recordings also include Struttin’ My Stuff and In A Family Way. She  recorded nine albums with the
widely popular group
Saffire--The Uppity Blues Women, which she co-founded in 1984,
and she has also recorded with numerous other artists.
An Ann Rabson concert is like an intimate family gathering, regardless of the size of the audience.
Her relaxed and unassuming demeanor sets the stage perfectly for her earthy and unvarnished performance.

Presenting her own music and that of blues pioneers such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Leroy
Carr, Tampa Red, and Big Bill Broonzy, Ann takes the audience on an unrestrained musical journey. The New York
Blues and Jazz Society says, “Ann has it all, the artful use of double entendres,
a salty sense of humor, truly imaginative piano and guitar work.”
We are honored to welcome Ann to our stage for the evening.
Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy the performance of a lifetime!
You'll be glad you did!
Advance Tickets are $10 and will go on Sale October 1!
Performance time is most likely 9PM but
Check back for further details about a possible opening act and definite performance times!
