March 9, 2012 ~LIVE EXPERIMENTAL/FOLK/FUSION MUSIC~ Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands 9:00PM - Midnight $5 Cover These folks played here to a most enthusiastic audience back in the Fall and we are pleased as punch to have back on our stage! “Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands have a maddeningly eclectic sound. This band is truly difficult to put a label on. Depending on the song being played, one could describe them using a variety of descriptions ranging from circus nightmare theme to Spanish traditional song to experimental noise. Crystal Bright plays accordion, keyboard, saw, and whatever other little toy she decides to pick up (There’s one instrument that looks like a big hamburger that she hits with mallets.). Crystal Bright is an amazing multi-instrumentalist Badass with the voice of a damn banshee.” - Taylor Bays Crystal's songs heavily incorporate her educational background in Anthropology and Ethnomusicology and her experiences playing in groups that have varied from Mariachi, Chinese, Balinese Gamelan, Samba, to Ugandan ensembles. She learned to play a wide range of instruments, from the accordion, to the musical saw (which she taught herself by watching YouTube videos), to an adungu (a Ugandan harp), to the concertina, all of which she adds to her piano background. For Crystal, songwriting can begin in many different ways, including refrigerator magnets or going to the movie theater at midnight by herself. It can be collaborative, but is mostly accomplished during the darkest hours of the night by herself surrounded by all of her instruments and computer. Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands sound like: A roller coaster of experimental, multicultural, ghostly carnival folk, on accordion, piano, saw, kit, cymbals, melodica, hang drum, concertina, breathing, bowed things, nylon, steel, strings, voices, ghosts, waltzes, moodiness, ridiculousness, fun,the carnival and silence. You owe it to yourself to come out and experience this amazing group! We guarantee you'll not see another performance like it or one that you'll have as much fun with! www.crystalbrightandthesilverhands.com March 16, 2012 ST. Tommy Talton is back at 'The Vine'! You'll remember when we managed to book the Tommy Talton Band back in May of 2009 in a last minute surprise performance that packed us out and brought the house down! It was a magic night of incredible music! Tommy is back, touring through our area with original Cowboy bassist Stan Robertson and we were fortunate to be able to book them for a performance here at 'The Vine'! Tommy Talton is one of the best songwriters and guitarists of our time and has taken the southern music scene by storm in recent years with a new band, a new determination, and exceptional new music. Talton's music showcases not only his classic slide and guitar work, but his distinctive vocals, and passionate songwriting. His music appeals to all ages, as evidenced by the wide age range of audiences at his live performances. Expect to hear music from many genres…from blues, southern rock and country rock to Americana, R&B and soul. Talton's critically acclaimed studio CD, Tommy Talton in Europe, was released on Hittin' the Note Records In May 2008, and his highly anticipated new live CD, Live Notes from Athens, released in April 2009. Tommy Talton is best known as a founding member of Capricorn Records group Cowboy. He toured extensively throughout the U.S. in the 70’s with Cowboy and with the Gregg Allman tour, from Carnegie Hall (as special guests) to Fillmore West in San Francisco and most cities in between. Talton was also the guitarist on Gregg Allman's "Laid Back" album. While in Macon, GA through most of the 70s, Talton was a studio musician recording with artists such as Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Corky Lang (West, Bruce and Lang, Mountain), Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Clarence Carter, country legend Kitty Wells, Alex and Livingston Taylor, Arthur Conley of Sweet Soul Music fame, and more. Tommy lived and toured in Europe throughout the 90s and formed a group there, called The Rebelizers, with members of Albert Lee's band, Hogan's Heroes. Talton returned to the United States and formed the Tommy Talton Band in 2006. Talton performed at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on March 17, 2009, as a special guest with The Allman Brothers Band in celebration of the Band's 40th anniversary, and again in April 2010 at the Macon City Auditorium in Macon, GA. Talton continues to tour with The Tommy Talton Band and Cowboy (reunited in 2010), as a solo act in intimate listening rooms, and as a special guest with many other well known, accomplished musicians and bands. Don't miss this "once in a blue moon" opportunity to catch Tommy and Stan on our stage! You'll be glad you did! Don't wait because these tickets will go FAST!!! www.tommytaltonband.com May 11, 2012 BLUE VINE 6TH ANNIVERSARY BASH! ~LIVE R&B/SOUL/FUNK/BLUES BAND~ Shana Blake & Pivotal Soul 9:00PM - Midnight $5 Cover We are so excited to welcome this awesome band back to help us celebrate our 6th year in business!! Pivotal Soul is an exciting new project from singer/songwriters Buzz Fawcett of Zanesville, Ohio, and Shana Blake of Charlotte, North Carolina. Their expressive melodies and poignant lyrics fuse coherently to create a sound that's as smooth as honey, with a hint of R&B, funk, reggae, southern rock, gospel, country, jazz and the blues. The repertoire covers the gamut from emotionally-charged ballads to energetic, danceable grooves. Buzz and Shana met at a NC function in the summer of 2010, where they had been hired to perform with a menagerie of musicians from north and south. The encounter proved to be pivotal for both. They discovered an obvious similarity in their performance styles, as well as in the themes of their respective compositions and song selections. Two short months later, the universe saw fit to relocate Buzz to the Queen City and the artists immediately began building the foundation that would become Pivotal Soul. The band is backed by veteran guitarist Keith Shamel (Virgo Musik, Daily Soul), bassist Dave Eatman (Bellyful, Automatic Chi, Nita B & the Swingin’ Soiree), and drummer/percussionist Scott Newell (Vonce, Justice League). Fawcett's introspective work focuses on topics that include a search for truth, recognition of life's challenges, and belief in a better future. His music reflects his heritage from America's Midwestern heartland and he employs ample skills as a blues and roots guitarist along with evocative and distinctive vocal stylings. The messages ring true for a broad spectrum of listener/thinkers looking for a fresh new sound. Shana, in the tradition of many singers, began her musical career as a church vocalist and has been influenced by all forms of traditional and world music. She's performed at various rallies and benefits, delivered singing telegrams and has been featured on a wide variety of recording sessions, sound-alikes and karaoke performance tracks. Blake was deemed Creative Loafing's 2001 Critic's Choice Best Female Vocalist and has gained some notoriety from her work with The Near Misses, Wavy Space, Tesser, Gael Warning, Daily Soul, Swill, Candlewyck, The Swizzlers and the Tosco Music Party. She was featured on Jerry Springer for her song "Springer" and "This Is Your Day" was adopted as an anthem for the Susan G. Koman Race For the Cure. Come help us celebrate and enjoy what promises to be an amazing evening of music! Click here to listen to a tune from a past performance here at The Blue Vine!0 |
